Studio or In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Photography: Which Session is Right for Your Family?
August 6, 2026
Because every family’s story deserves to be told in the way that feels most like them.
Bringing your new baby home is a once-in-a-lifetime season.
Before you know it, the tiny yawns will disappear. The newborn curl will stretch out. The weight of that tiny baby asleep on your chest will become the weight of a toddler whose favorite word is “no!”
The beautiful thing about newborn photography is that there isn’t just one “right” way to preserve these moments. Some families dream of polished portraits they’ll proudly display on their walls for decades. Others want photographs that feel like opening a time capsule back into those sleepy mornings at home.
That’s why I offer both studio and in-home lifestyle newborn sessions. Neither is better than the other.
They’re simply different ways of telling the beginning of your family’s story.
| Studio Newborn Session | In-Home Lifestyle Session |
| Curated styling | Natural surroundings |
| Soft posed portraits | Genuine interactions |
| Studio lighting | Natural light |
| Wraps, props, & outfits provided | Your home tells the story |
| Artistic heirloom artwork | Documentary family memories |
| Baby-focused with family portraits | Connection-focused with baby portraits |

Studio Newborn Sessions
Thoughtfully styled. Beautifully polished. Baby-led from beginning to end.
If you’ve fallen in love with soft wraps, cozy textures, carefully chosen colors, and artistic newborn portraits (not to mention, beds, buckets, bowls, and baskets), a studio session may be exactly what you’re looking for.
When you arrive at my Davison studio, everything is already prepared for you. Wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets, props, outfits, and styling have all been carefully selected so that you don’t have to bring much besides your baby.
Your only job? Relax. Enjoy watching someone else gently care for your little one while you soak it all in.
Every pose is done safely and at baby’s pace. Feeding breaks, diaper changes, cuddles, and soothing are all simply part of the session.
The result is a gallery full of beautifully finished artwork that celebrates just how tiny your baby was.
A studio session might be perfect for you if…
- You love soft, polished portraits.
- You want access to professional wraps, props, and styling.
- You’d rather not prepare your home.
- You enjoy a carefully curated look.
- You want artwork designed to hang beautifully throughout your home.

In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Sessions
Honest. Emotional. Filled with the little moments you’ll never get back.
Lifestyle sessions are less about creating perfect poses and more about preserving what life actually looked like when your family first welcomed your baby home.
These sessions happen where your story is unfolding right now.
Maybe it’s the nursery you spent months decorating. Maybe it’s the rocking chair where you’ve already spent countless nights. Maybe it’s your toddler proudly climbing onto the couch beside their new baby sibling.
Your home doesn’t need to be magazine-worthy. It doesn’t even need to come close.
It only needs to be yours.
I gently guide your family when needed, but much of the session is simply allowing authentic moments to unfold naturally.
The way your partner looks at your baby. The tiny fingers wrapped around yours. The sleepy stretches. The quiet snuggles. The chaos that somehow already feels like home.
Those are the moments you’ll treasure years from now.
A lifestyle session might be perfect for you if…
- You want your home to be part of your family’s story.
- You love candid moments over posed portraits.
- You want photographs that feel natural and emotional.
- You’d rather remember how this season felt than recreate it.
- You value connection more than perfection.

What About Family Photos?
One of the questions I get most often is whether parents and siblings can be included.
Absolutely!
Whether we’re in the studio or in your home, your newest baby is only part of the story. These early days belong to your entire family.
We’ll create images of everyone together, siblings with baby, parents individually with baby, and, of course, plenty of portraits that celebrate your little one all on their own.

Which Session Creates Better Memories?
Honestly? Neither.
The memories are already there. We’re simply choosing how you want to preserve them.
Studio sessions celebrate the beauty of your baby.
Lifestyle sessions celebrate the experience of becoming a family.
Many parents naturally lean toward one style the moment they see examples. Others have a harder time deciding because they love both. And that’s completely normal.
Still Can’t Decide?
Here’s a simple question I often ask parents.
Close your eyes and imagine looking through your newborn album ten years from now.
Which makes your heart skip a beat?
Is it…
Beautiful portraits of your baby wrapped peacefully in soft textures with every tiny feature perfectly highlighted?
Or…
Photographs of your family curled up together in the home where this whole new chapter began?
If your answer is “both,” you’re not alone. There’s no wrong choice.
Only the story you want to remember.

However you choose to remember these days, they’re worth preserving.
Ready to Tell Your Story?
Whether you envision softly styled studio portraits or heartfelt memories in the comfort of your own home, my goal is always the same:
To create photographs that help you remember not only what your baby looked like, but what this season of life felt like.
I’d love to help you choose the experience that feels most like your family.
